FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR REHABILITATION COUNSELING GRADUATE STUDENTS

Students completing the Rehabilitation Counseling Master's Degree are eligible for financial assistance through the RSA Scholarship program. Scholars “pay back” their financial assistance post-graduation by maintaining acceptable employment in a State-Federal Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agency or a vendor of that agency.

Rehabilitation training scholarships are awarded to ensure that skilled professionals are available to provide the broad scope of services required by customers of the state-federal programs of vocational rehabilitation, supported employment, and independent living.

RSA Scholarship Details

Students who are accepted to the RSA Scholarship program are eligible to receive the following:

  • $1500 per course per semester in tuition and fees for courses that are required for the UNT Rehabilitation Counseling Master’s Program.
  • An internship with the State-Federal Vocational Rehabilitation Program. In Texas, this is the Texas Workforce Commission – Vocational Rehabilitation.
    • A limited number of $6000 stipends are available to students during their internships.
  • Funding for the national Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) examination offered by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC).
  • Access to CRC Exam Prep Courses offered through UNT WISE.
  • Access to obtain Employment Services Credentials through select courses offered through UNT WISE, including:
    • Job Skills Training
    • Job Placement Specialist
    • Supported Employment Specialist
    • Work Readiness
  • Funding to attend at least one professional conference annually.
  • $500 annual textbook stipend.

RSA Scholarship Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the RSA Scholarship, students must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Must be fully admitted to graduate status and working toward the master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA each semester.
  • Must intend to pursue a career with a State-Federal Vocational Rehabilitation agency, or a vendor of the agency.

RSA Scholars will be required to gain employment with their State-Federal VR agency, or a vendor of that agency, within 2 years of graduation and to remain employed for a period of time determined by the length of time they received the scholarship (one year of scholarship = two years of employment).

Application Process

Students in the Rehabilitation Counseling graduate program are eligible to apply for RSA benefits as early as their first semester in the program. Awards will be based on the applicant’s:

  • membership in a targeted recruitment group, which includes persons who intend to pursue careers within the State‐Federal VR program;
  • academic standing;
  • written self‐statement; and
  • personal interview.
