About Our Program

The Health Data Analytics (HLDA) master's program at the University of North Texas is a graduate-level program that prepares graduates to apply advanced coursework in big data analytics, machine learning, cloud computing, data visualization, and health systems management to improve healthcare delivery, population health, organizational performance, and build leaders capable of transforming data into actionable intelligence.  The program is comprised of 30 credit hours or 10 courses which can be completed 100% Online in less than 2 years. For international students, this degree program is offered in a hybrid format with five Data Analytics courses offered face-to-face while the other five Health Services courses are offered online. It qualifies as a STEM program that offers international students three years of OPT after graduation and will comply with international student visa requirements.

The curriculum is structured for students to develop technical proficiency in data acquisition, management, predictive modeling, visualization, and decision-support, while also gaining the ability to evaluate the broader operational, regulatory, and equity implications of data use in healthcare systems.

The MS in Health Data Analytics develops advanced competencies in:

  • Population health analysis
  • Ethics, privacy, and health data governance
  • Applied analytics through capstone and internship experience

Foundational information will be provided in all courses to help students succeed academically. 

Health Data Analytics MS Application Process

Application Submission in GradCAS

Apply for graduate admission online with the GradCAS portal.

Application Materials

Required application materials submitted in GradCAS: 

  • Self-Statement
  • One Professional Recommendation

Your Self-Statement should be a double-spaced, typed essay outlining your academic interests, career goals, and how the program meets your needs. The statement will need to be submitted in your GradCAS application.

One professional recommendation is required from current or past employer, professor, or community leader. When you submit your GradCAS application, it will prompt the system to contact your recommender directly via email.

Interview with the Health Services Administration Faculty

Once the department has received all of your application materials, qualified applicants may be contacted to set-up an admissions interview. Interviews will either be conducted over the phone or through Zoom.

This STEM-focused program is offered on-campus and online.

The application deadline for the Fall 2026 application cycle for domestic applicants is May 1, 2026. The recommended application deadline for the Fall 2026 application cycle for international applicants is March 1, 2026, to allow sufficient time to make any necessary visa/travel arrangements if admitted.

The domestic application deadline for Spring 2027 is December 1, 2026, although the recommended deadline for international applicants is October 1, 2026 to allow sufficient time to make any necessary visa/travel arrangements if admitted.

The Health Data Analytics MS program has fall and spring admissions and can be completed either online or in-person. All application materials (including all transcripts) must be turned into the GradCAS application system by the day of the application deadline.
